Accessibility

This website will be updated with photos and relevant maps in June before the convention.

Archipelacon 2 is committed to making sure the convention offers as good as possible experience for all our members, which is why we have collected together some information about the accessibility at the convention venue, and the actions the convention is taking to improve the accessibility at the convention. Alandica Culture & Congress Centre is a multifunctional building for various types of events, and they strive to offer all visitors a barrier-free, accessible environment.

If you have any concerns, questions or special requests related to Access, you can contact the Archipelacon 2 Access team by email at access@archipelacon.org before the con. During the first day of the convention (Thursday), the Access team will also be available at the Info Desk. On other convention days, the Info Desk is happy to assist in all your access needs.

Access in General

Although Alandica Culture & Congress Centre is committed to accessibility, the convention is also taking some steps to promote accessibility during the convention.

Archipelacon 2 recommends avoiding the use of perfumes or strongly scented products during the convention. The use of hair spray is not allowed at the convention site.

All programme participants in every room with an audience are required to use a microphone. This will help with the audibility of the programme items. The larger rooms have induction loops available.

Priority seating will be reserved to those with access needs. These will take into account those using mobility scooters or wheelchairs, people with difficulty taking the stairs, people using induction loops (where available), and lip-readers.

Access Badges

Archipelacon 2 will offer Access badges for anyone who wishes to have one. The badge will give you priority access to programme items and lifts around the venue, as well as priority seating, although the badge is not required for using the lifts or the priority seating. Everyone who feels they might benefit from the badge can pick their Access badge from the Info Desk at any point of the convention.

Entrance Doors

The convention site entrance is located slightly higher than the road in front of the building. There is a ramp to the main entrance, which has a single-level railing on the right side only. Unfortunately the railing does not continue throughout the ramp.

There is an automatic door opener at the main entrance on the left hand side. The entrance has a slightly raised threshold and when entering assistance may be needed, especially if you are using a mobility scooter or wheelchair. The reception of the venue, as well as Archipelacon 2 Registration and Info Desk are located right inside the convention site, and can offer assistance when needed.

The door is 93 cm wide (maximum width 190 cm, with assistance).

Toilets

The accessible toilets are located on floors 0, 2 and 3. There is no threshold. There are handrails located in the inside of the door, under the doorknob. The toilets have an alarm button.

Toilet on floor 0: Door width 85 centimeters, room area 5.5 square meters. The toilet has the only changing table within the building. No automatic door opener.

Toilets floors 2 and 3: Door width 90 centimeters, room size 6.25 square meters. No automatic door opener.

Lifts

There are two lifts at the convention site.

The first list is a lift to the main hall, which you can use to reach all public floors, with the exception of the 3rd floor. The lift announces the floor with a recorded voice. The lift dimensions are maximum width 100 cm, maximum length 105 cm, maximum load 1000 kg.

The second lift is a large goods lift, which has public access only to the 3rd floor. The goods lift also offers access to the areas reserved only for staff (volunteers) and programme participants.

Archipelacon 2 will add signage to both lifts about the different floors and what to access from which floor.

Programme rooms and auditoriums

At Archipelacon 2 all event spaces will have reserved priority seating marked with ACCESS SEATING signs. There will be seating for wheelchairs or scooters, people using induction loops, as well as front-row seats reserved for lip-readers.

All smaller programme rooms will have reserved seating for wheelchair users and people with scooters as well as front-row seats reserved for lip-readers.

If you wish another accessible seating, please contact the Info Desk before the programme item or email our Access Team before the convention at access@archipelacon.org .

Hearing Loops

There are hearing loops on the floor in the main hall and the auditorium on the 2nd floor. In the main hall, you should try to sit on the parquet floor (behind the 14th row).

In the auditorium, you should choose a seat in the bottom row of the bleachers or at floor level. Set your hearing aid to T-position.

The Main Hall (Stora Scenen)

The main hall has 10 places for wheelchairs/scooters. The seats are on the parquet floor, behind row 14. The seats are reached by main lift from the foyer to floor 1.5. Entrance: Parquet right.

There is also space for three wheelchairs on the parquet floor, on the left side inside the door. Entrance: Parquet left at the ground level

There are several difficult stairs in the hall with steps of varying lengths. If you cannot climb stairs, it is advisable to sit in row 5. Other seats are reached via one or more steps.

The stage can be reached using a wheelchair through the stage entrance at the ground level near the Parquet Left entrance. A member of staff will assist with opening the doors.

The induction loop in the main hall only works on the parquet level and it is not available on the balcony.

The Auditorium (Lilla Scenen / Auditoriet)

In the Auditorium on the 2nd floor, there is space for wheelchairs and mobility aids in front of the bleachers.

The induction loop in the Auditorium works best in the front of the room.

Visitors With Small Children

Visitors with children can easily get around our premises with a stroller. There is a changing table in the accessible toilet on floor 0 and a lift that can accommodate a normal-sized stroller. A high-chair is available in the foyer restaurant.

If you have a wider pram or stroller, or have other needs when travelling with infants, such as needing to use the microwave, please contact Info Desk.

Disabled Parking

Disabled parking is available on Strandgatan outside Alandica Culture & Congress Centre. Note that the ramp from the street to the entrance is paved with paving stones. The Disabled parking may only be used by people having the disabled parking permit visible on their cars.

Disabled parking is also available in the Miramar parking garage, entrance from Styrmansgatan, open 07–24. There is a lift and a gravel walkway if you select the “Alandica” button, and asphalt to the ramp at the entrance if you select the “Strandgatan” button.

Borrowing a Wheelchair

Alandica Culture & Congress Centre has a few wheelchairs for loan. If you need a wheelchair for your visit, it is recommended to contact the Congress centre info@alandica.ax in advance to book the wheelchair before your visit. There are only very limited number of wheelchairs available.
