Åland islands

Åland islands is the westernmost part of the Finnish archipelago reaching towards Sweden. It is a self-governing Swedish-speaking region of Finland, and has for several years been the home of Åcon, the small relaxacon uniting the fans from Nordic countries. While Åland is Swedish-speaking, due to all the tourism the islands get, getting by with English is entirely possible especially in Mariehamn.

The capital of the islands, Mariehamn, is situated on the main island (also called Åland), and is a beautiful and welcoming town with 12 000 inhabitants, a modern congress centre, dozens of restaurants from fast food to fine dining, and lots of opportunities to spend your money on local delicacies and handicrafts. Our venue is in the centre of Mariehamn, just a stone’s throw away from all the services.

Summer is the best time to visit Åland, the weather is warm but not humid or hot, thanks to the breezes from the Baltic, and there is lots to do and see. Åland has a rich and unique history going back to prehistory and medieval period, and because the main island is only about 50 kilometres (30 miles) across, the numerous sights from the medieval Kastelholma castle to the imperial Eckerö post house are easily reached from Mariehamn.
