Important Notice on Tax and Customs Laws on Åland Islands
Archipelacon 2 would like to inform all vendors that there are tax and customs laws, which need to be followed when selling goods brought from Åland Islands. Please notice that this also applies to non-profit organisations, even if they are not required to pay VAT on mainland Finland.
As the Åland Islands are not part of EU VAT and excise territory, there is a tax border between Åland Islands and the EU VAT territory, including mainland Finland. Imports between Åland Islands and EU VAT territory, or areas outside of the EU are subject to the provisions of the Value Added Tax Act. This means all companies, other organisations or artists bringing goods to be sold on Åland Islands must follow the tax procedures defined in the lax. All organisations and individuals are also required to fill in a tax border declaration with the Finnish Customs (Tulli). According to the Finnish Customs, for companies, other organisations or individuals coming outside of Finland, this must be done via presentation, such as a transport company. All vendors are responsible for filling in the correct paperwork and confirming they are allowed to sell items and services on Åland. Unfortunately for legal reasons Archipelacon 2 can not offer guidance or more instructions on VAT or Customs related matters.
If you require more information about the tax border and importing goods, we recommend heading to the Finnish Tax Authority (Verottaja) website. You can also find information and instructions on the Finnish Customs (Tulli) website. Åland Chamber of Commerce (Ålands Näringsliv) offers guidance on all tax and customs related matters, and we highly recommend being in touch with them if there are any questions related to the tax and customs laws on Åland. All websites are available in Finnish, Swedish and English, you can change the language from the menu at the top of the page (For Åland Chamber of Commerce the language selection is at the bottom once you click “Menu” on the top).
